Through innovation, we can accelerate the transition of the electronics industry towards a more sustainable future.

For Mycronic, sustainable innovation is about developing products that help our customers realize their business goals and minimize their environmental impact. To enable progress, the divisions have development plans to further improve the environmental efficiency of products, and at Group level, Mycronic has launched a Sustainable Innovation Fund that is dedicated to finance projects that advance sustainability within and outside Mycronic.

Goal to 2030

A large majority – 80 percent – of Mycronic’s carbon footprint is attributable to our customers’ use of our products. Reducing the climate impact of products therefor plays an important role in Mycronic’s strategy going forward.

Mycronic has set a science-based target to reduce Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions from the use of sold products by 52 percent per SEK gross profit, from base year 2022. This goal covers emissions that arise from electricity usage when our machines operate at customers' sites.

Reducing climate impact from our products

Mycronic helps its customers to reduce their climate impact by making production processes more environmentally sustainable. We focus on technical innovation to enable lower energy consumption and higher efficiency of our products. For instance, by introducing highly energy-efficient, solid-state lasers in our mask writers, we help our customers to cut energy consumption and reduce their CO2e emissions. In this work, life cycle analyses (LCAs) of our products provide important input.

Reducing other environmental impacts from our products

We support our customers in reducing production waste and in prolonging the useful life of their Mycronic equipment. For example, to reduce materials waste at customer sites, we provide digital solutions that identifies production errors.

Mycronic offers regular maintenance services and replacement of key spare parts. Buyback programs are also in place in some markets, under which we renovate and upgrade equipment for resale.

Mycronic commits to comply with the RoHS and REACH Directives for products sold on the European market, as well as to the China RoHS regulation.

The Sustainable Innovation Fund

Mycronic’s Sustainable Innovation Fund finances innovative projects that promote sustainability within Mycronic, in the electronics industry, or that support selected Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) outside the industry. Through the Fund, new technologies can be created that enable advances in sustainability. The initiative also encourages interest in sustainability throughout the Mycronic Group and shows how sustainability can be woven into business.
